Biography

Tom Harvey is currently Chief Executive of Northern Film & Media. Northern Film & Media is the strategic media investment fund for North East England. Funded by the UK Film Council and ONE North East, Northern Film & Media is investing £1.5m in the development of people, companies, content, networking and audiences across multiple content platforms.

Tom began working in the media industry at David Puttnam's Enigma Productions before moving on to work as an Assistant Director, Production Manager and Producer across a range of productions, including US and UK movies, television films and series, documentaries, short films and pop promos.

Tom ran the Edinburgh International Television Festival as Director, for three years, helping entice speakers such as Dennis Potter, John Birt, Barry Diller, John Hendricks and Moses Znaimer.

In 1996 Tom went to work in senior management at the BBC, first as Commissions and Strategy Executive under Michael Jackson on BBC2, then as Manager of the newly formed Independent Commissioning Group under Jane Root, which was responsible for the BBC programming commissioned from the independent sector.

Prior to joining Northern Film & Media Tom was Managing Director of XPT. XPT is one of the first independent digital media companies in the UK to dedicate itself exclusively to interactive entertainment. XPT's products include: Onlinecaroline, a simulated webcam drama in 24 parts; it3c, a virtual gift-giving service and Mount Kristos, an online Greek Island holiday.

XPT is part owned by Orange, the UK’s largest ISP. XPT has had three BAFTA nominations and won the BAFTA award for best interactive site with Online Caroline in 2000.

Tom left the XPT to start NFM as Chief Executive in January 2002.
